5 JOYFUL MYSTERIES OF THE MOST HOLY ROSARY |
|
|
FIRST JOYFUL MYSTERY: THE ANNUNCIATION |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was
sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a
man named Joseph, of the House of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
Gabriel went in and said to her, ‘Rejoice, so highly favoured! – Hail! Full of grace! – The Lord is with you.’ Luke 1; 28 |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
Mary was deeply disturbed by these words
and asked herself what this greeting could mean. |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
But the angel said to her, ‘Mary, do not
be afraid; you have won God’s favour’ |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
‘Listen! You are to conceive and bear a
son, and you must name him Jesus.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
‘He will be great and will be called Son
of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor
David; he will rule over the House of Jacob for ever and his reign will have
no end.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
Mary said to the angel, ‘But how can this
come about, since I am a virgin?’ |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you’ the
angel answered ‘and the power of the Most High will cover you with its
shadow.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
‘And so the child will be holy and will
be called Son of God.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
‘I am the handmaid of the Lord,’ said
Mary ‘let what you have said be done to me.’ And the angel left her. |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
Shout for joy, O daughter of Zion! The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel, a name which means ‘God-is-with-us’. Matt 1; 23 (Isaiah 7; 14) |
|
GLORY BE |
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit. |

|
SECOND JOYFUL MYSTERY: THE VISITATION OF OUR LADY TO ST. ELIZABETH |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
Mary set out at that time and went as quickly as she could to a town in the hill country of Judah. Luke 1; 39 |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
Mary went into Zachariah’s house and
greeted Elizabeth. |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
Now as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s
greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy
Spirit. |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
Elizabeth gave a loud cry and said, ‘Of
all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
‘Yes, blessed is she who believed that
the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
And Mary said: ‘My soul proclaims the
greatness of the Lord. |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
Mary said, ‘Yes, from this day forward
all generations will call me blessed, |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
Mary said, ‘Holy is his name, |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
Mary said, ‘He has shown the power of his
arm, |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
Mary said, ‘He has pulled down princes
from their thrones |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
Mary said, ‘The hungry he has filled with
good things, |
|
GLORY BE |
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit. |

|
THIRD JOYFUL MYSTERY: THE BIRTH OF JESUS – THE FIRST CHRISTMAS |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
Joseph, together with his betrothed, Mary, who was with child, came to Bethlehem, the town of David, to be registered. Luke 2; 4, 5 |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
While they were there the time came for
Mary to have her child. |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
And Mary gave birth to a son, her
first-born. |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
And Mary laid him in a manger because
there was no room for them at the inn. |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
In the countryside close by there were
shepherds who lived in the fields and took it in turns to watch their flocks
during the night. |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
The shepherds were terrified, but the
angel said, ‘Do not be afraid. Listen, |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
‘Today in the town of David a saviour has
been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
There was a great throng of the heavenly host praising God. ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
After Jesus had been born at Bethlehem in
Judea during the reign of King Herod, some wise men came to Jerusalem from
the east. And going into the house they saw the child with his mother Mary,
and falling to their knees they did him homage. |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
Then, opening their treasures, they
offered him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh. |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
As for Mary, she treasured all these
thing and pondered them in her heart. |
|
GLORY BE |
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit. |

|
|
FOURTH JOYFUL MYSTERY: THE PRESENTATION OF THE BABY JESUS IN THE TEMPLE |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
And the day came for them to be purified, as laid down by the Law of Moses Luke 2; 22 |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
Joseph and Mary took the child Jesus up
to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
Now in Jerusalem there was a man named
Simeon. He was an upright and devout man; he looked forward to Israel’s
comforting and the Holy Spirit rested on him. |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
It had been revealed to Simeon by the
Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he had set eyes on the Christ
of the Lord. |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
Prompted by the Spirit, Simeon came to
the Temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him
what the law required, he took him into his arms and blessed God. |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
‘Now, Master, you can let your servant go
in peace, just as you promised.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
‘Because my eyes have seen the salvation
which you have prepared for all the nations to see . . .’ |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
‘A light to enlighten the pagans |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his
mother, ‘You see this child: he is destined for the fall and for the rising
of many in Israel, destined to be a sign that is rejected.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
Simeon said to Mary his mother, ‘A sword will pierce your own soul too -
so that the secret thoughts of many may be laid bare’. |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
When they had done everything the Law of
the Lord required, they went back to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.
Meanwhile the child grew to maturity, and he was filled with wisdom; and
God’s favour was with him. |
|
GLORY BE |
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit. |

|
FIFTH JOYFUL MYSTERY: THE FINDING OF THE 12 YR OLD JESUS IN THE TEMPLE |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
Every year the parents of Jesus used to go to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover. Luke 2; 41 |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
When Jesus was twelve years old, Joseph
and Mary and the boy Jesus went up for the feast as usual. |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
When they were on their way home after
the feast, |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
When they failed to find the boy Jesus
they went back to Jerusalem looking for him everywhere. |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
Jesus was sitting among the doctors,
listening to them, and asking them questions. |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
And all those who heard Jesus were
astounded at his intelligence and his replies. |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
They were overcome when they saw the boy
Jesus, and his mother said to him, |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
‘Why were you looking for me?’ Jesus
replied. ‘Did you not know that I must be busy with my Father’s affairs?’ |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
But they did not understand what he
meant. |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
He then went down with them and came to
Nazareth and lived under their authority. |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
And Jesus increased in wisdom, in stature,
and in favour with God and men. |
|
GLORY BE |
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit. |

|
5 LUMINOUS MYSTERIES OF THE MOST HOLY ROSARY |
|
|
FIRST LUMINOUS MYSTERY: THE BAPTISM IN THE JORDAN |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
In those days John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness of Judea, proclaiming "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near." Matt 3; 1-2 |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
This is the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said, "The voice of one cries out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight’." Matt 3; 3 (Isaiah 40; 3) |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
John proclaims, “I baptize you with water for repentance, but one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” Matt 3; 11 |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him. Matt 3; 13 |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" Matt 3; 14 |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
But Jesus answered John, "Let it be so now; for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented. Matt 3; 15 |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and the Spirit of God was seen descending like a dove and alighting on him Matt 3; 16 |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased." Matt 3; 17 |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to give testimony of the light, that all men might believe through him. John 1; 6-7 |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, "Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! John 1; 29 |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' And I saw, and I give testimony, that this is the Son of God.” John 1; 32-34 |
|
GLORY BE |
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit. |
|
O MY JESUS |
|
|
SECOND LUMINOUS MYSTERY: THE WEDDING AT CANA |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
There was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. John 2; 1 |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. John 2; 2 |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." John 2; 3 |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
Jesus said to her, "Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come." John 2; 4 |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." John 2; 5 |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. John 2; 6-7 |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
Jesus said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward." So they took it. John 2; 8 |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom John 2; 9 |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
The steward said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have well drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now." John 2; 10 |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. John 2; 11 |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
After this he went down to Capernaum, he and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples. John 2; 12 |
|
GLORY BE |
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit. |

|
THIRD LUMINOUS MYSTERY: THE PROCLAMATION OF THE KINGDOM |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God Mark 1;14 |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
Jesus proclaimed, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the good news." Mark 1; 15 |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
He left Nazareth and made his home in Capernaum by the sea, so that what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.” Matt 4; 13-16 (Isaiah 9; 1) |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people. Matt 4; 23 |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
Jesus went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, as was his custom. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me. He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he has sent me to heal the contrite of heart. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of reward.” Luke 4; 16-19 (Isaiah 61; 1-2) |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. And opening his mouth, he taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matt 5; 1-3 |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country. He began to teach in their synagogues and was praised by everyone. Luke 4; 14-15 |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
As Jesus was still speaking to the multitudes, behold his mother and his brethren stood outside the house, seeking to speak to him. Matt 12; 46 |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
But Jesus answered him that told him, saying: “Who is my mother, and who are my brethren?” Matt 12; 48 |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
And pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.” Matt 12; 49-50 |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
Jesus taught, “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another.” John 13; 34-35 |
|
GLORY BE |
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit. |

|
|
FOURTH LUMINOUS MYSTERY: THE TRANSFIGURATION |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
Jesus said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Matt 16; 15-16 |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. And I say to you: That you are Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matt 16; 17-18 |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. Matt 17; 1 |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
And while Jesus was praying, the appearance of his face changed, Luke 9; 29 And Jesus was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. Matt 17; 2 |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. Matt 17; 3 |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
They appeared in glory and were speaking of Jesus’ departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem Luke 9; 31 |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
Then Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three dwellings here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. Matt 17; 4 |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
While Peter was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. Luke 9; 34 |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
From the cloud a voice said, "This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!" Matt 17; 5 |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. And Jesus came and touched them, and said to them, “Arise, and fear not.” Matt 17; 6-7 |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, "Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead." Matt 17; 8-9 |
|

|
FIFTH LUMINOUS MYSTERY: THE INSTITUTION OF THE EUCHARIST |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover meal for us that we may eat it." Luke 22; 7-8 |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
When the hour came, Jesus took his place at the table, and the apostles with him. Luke 22; 14 |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. John 13; 1 |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
Then Jesus poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him. John 13; 5 |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
Jesus said to them, “So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that as I have done to you, so you do also.” John 13; 14-15 |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
Then Jesus took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks and said the blessing, he broke it and gave it to the disciples, saying, "Take and eat. This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." Luke 22; 19 (Matt 26; 26) |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
Jesus did the same with the cup after supper, when he had returned thanks he said, “Drink all of you from this for this is my blood. This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood, poured out for the many for the forgiveness of sins.” Matt 26; 27-28 : Luke 22; 20 |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
Jesus then said, “Simon, Simon, listen! Satan has demanded to sift all of you like wheat, but I have prayed for you, (Simon) that your own faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22; 31-32 |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
Now the Passover, the festival of the Jews, (of the preceding year,) was near. So the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they themselves got into the boats and went to Capernaum looking for Jesus. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven.” John 6; 4, 24, 32 |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6; 35 |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life.” “I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, for the life of the world.” “Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink.” Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God." John 6; 48, 51, 54-55, 68-69 |

5 SORROWFUL MYSTERIES OF THE MOST HOLY ROSARY |
|
|
FIRST SORROWFUL MYSTERY: THE AGONY IN THE GARDEN |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
Then Jesus came with them to a small
estate called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, Matt. 26; 36 |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
Jesus took Peter and the two sons of
Zebedee with him, And sadness came over him, and great distress. |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
Then Jesus said to them, ‘My soul is
sorrowful to the point of death. Wait here and keep awake with me.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
And going on a little further Jesus threw
himself on the ground and prayed |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
‘Father,’ Jesus said ‘if you are willing,
take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, let your will be done, not mine.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
Then an angel appeared to Jesus, coming
from heaven to give him strength. |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
In his anguish Jesus prayed even more
earnestly, and his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood! |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
Jesus came back to the disciples and
found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
‘You should be awake, and praying not to
be put to the test.’ Jesus said. |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
‘The spirit is willing, but the flesh is
weak!’ Jesus said. |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
‘Now the hour has come when the Son of Man is to be betrayed into the hands of sinners.’ Jesus said, ‘ Let us go! My betrayer is already close at hand.’ Matt. 26; 45-46 |

|
SECOND SORROWFUL MYSTERY: THE SCOURGING AT THE PILLAR |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
They had Jesus bound and took him away
and handed him over to Pilate. |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
Pilate questioned Jesus, ‘Are you the
king of the Jews?’ |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
Jesus replied, ‘Mine is not a kingdom of
this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my men would have fought to
prevent my being surrendered to the Jews. But my kingdom is not of this
kind.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
‘So you are a king then?’ said Pilate. |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
Pilate then said to the chief priests and
the crowd, |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
Pilate then had Jesus taken away and
scourged. |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
By force and by law he was taken, |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
Harshly dealt with, he bore it humbly, he
never opened his mouth, |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
Yet he was pierced through for our
faults, |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
And yet ours were the sufferings he bore, |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
On him lies a punishment that brings us
peace, |

THIRD SORROWFUL MYSTERY: THE CROWNING WITH THORNS |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
The soldiers led Jesus away to the inner
part of the palace. |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
Then they stripped him and made Jesus
wear a scarlet cloak. |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
And having twisted some thorns into a
crown they put this on Jesus’ head and placed a reed in his right hand. |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
To make fun of Jesus they knelt to him
saying, ‘Hail, king of the Jews!’ |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
And they spat on Jesus and took the reed
and struck him on the head with it. |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
Pilate came outside again and said to
them, ‘Look, I am going to bring him out to you to let you see that I find no
case’. |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
Jesus then came out wearing the crown of
thorns and the purple robe. |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
Pilate said, ‘Here is the man’. |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
‘Why?’ Pilate asked them ‘What harm has
he done?’ |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
‘Do you want me to crucify your king?’
said Pilate. |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
So in the end Pilate handed Jesus over to
them to be crucified. |

FOURTH SORROWFUL MYSTERY: THE CARRYING OF THE CROSS |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
Then to all Jesus said, ‘If anyone wants
to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
‘And take up his cross daily, and follow
me.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
They then took charge of Jesus, |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
As they were leading him away to Calvary,
the place of the skull, they seized on a man, Simon from Cyrene, who was
coming in from the country, and made him shoulder the cross and carry it
behind Jesus. |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
‘Shoulder my yoke and learn from me’ said
Jesus. |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
‘For I am gentle and humble in heart.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
‘And you will find rest for your souls. |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
Large numbers of people followed Jesus,
and of women too who mourned and lamented for him. |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
But Jesus turned to them and said,
‘Daughters of Jerusalem do not weep for me; |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
Jesus said, ‘For if men use the green
wood like this, what will happen when it is dry?’ |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
Now with Jesus they were also leading out two other criminals to be executed. Luke 23; 32 |
|

FIFTH SORROWFUL MYSTERY: THE CRUCIFIXION |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
When they reached the place called The
Skull, they crucified Jesus there, |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them; they
do not know what they are doing.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
Even the robbers who were crucified with
him taunted him in the same way. Matt. 27; 44; Luke 23; 39 |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
But the other robber spoke up and rebuked
him ‘Have you no fear of God at all?’ |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
‘Indeed, I promise you,’ Jesus replied
‘today you will be with me in paradise.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he
loved standing near her. |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
Jesus said to his mother, ‘Woman, this is
your son’. |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
And from that moment the disciple made a
place for Mary in his home. |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
A darkness came over the whole land until
the ninth hour. |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
And when Jesus had cried out in a loud
voice, he said, |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
Jesus said, ‘It is accomplished.’ With
these words he breathed his last. And bowing his head he gave up his spirit. |

5 GLORIOUS MYSTERIES OF THE MOST HOLY ROSARY |
|
|
FIRST GLORIOUS MYSTERY: THE RESURRECTION |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
‘I tell you most solemnly, you will be
weeping and wailing while the world will rejoice; |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
‘So it is with you: you are sad now, but
I shall see you again,’ said Jesus, |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
On the first day of the week, at the
first sign of dawn, |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
And all at once there was a violent
earthquake, for the angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
But the angel spoke; and he said to the
women, |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
‘He is not here, he has risen. See here
is the place where they laid him’ the angel told them. |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
‘He has risen from the dead and now he is
going before you to Galilee; it is there you will see him’. |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
Filled with awe and great joy the women
came quickly away from the tomb and ran to tell the disciples. |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
Jesus said “I am the resurrection. If
anyone believes in me even though he dies, he will live.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
‘And whoever lives and believes in me
will never die. Do you believe this?’ Jesus asked. |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
Jesus showed himself to the Eleven themselves while they were at table. Mark 16; 14 |
|

|
SECOND GLORIOUS MYSTERY: THE ASCENSION |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
Then Jesus took them out as far as the
outskirts of Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
Jesus came up and spoke to them. He said,
‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
‘Go, therefore, make disciples of all the
nations’ said Jesus. |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
‘Baptize them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,’ said Jesus. |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
‘And teach them to observe all the
commands I gave you,’ said Jesus. |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
‘Go out to the whole world; proclaim the
Good News to all creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved,’
said Jesus. |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
‘He who does not believe will be
condemned,’ said Jesus. |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
‘And know that I am with you always; yes,
to the end of time,’ said Jesus. |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
Now as he blessed them, Jesus withdrew
from them. |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
And so the Lord Jesus, after he had
spoken to them, was taken up into heaven: |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
The angels said to the disciples, ‘This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will come back in the same way as you have seen him go there.’ Acts 1; 11 |

THIRD GLORIOUS MYSTERY: THE DESCENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AT PENTECOST |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
When Pentecost day came round, they had
all met in one room. |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
Suddenly they heard what sounded like a
powerful wind from heaven, |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
Something appeared to them that seemed
like tongues of fire, |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
They were all filled with the Holy
Spirit; ‘we hear them preaching in our own language about the marvels of
God.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
Now there were devout men living in
Jerusalem from every nation under heaven. |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and
addressed them in a loud voice. |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
‘You must repent,’ Peter answered ‘and
every one of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’ |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
They were convinced by Peter’s arguments,
and they accepted what he said and were baptized. That very day about three
thousand were added to their number. |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
You send forth your spirit, fresh life
begins, |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
‘When the Spirit of truth comes |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of
your faithful, While Peter was still speaking to Cornelius and his household the Holy Spirit came down on all the listeners. Acts 10; 44 |

|
FOURTH GLORIOUS MYSTERY: THE ASSUMPTION OF OUR LADY INTO HEAVEN |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
The disciples joined in continuous prayer, together with several women, including Mary the mother of Jesus. Acts 1; 14 |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
May you be blessed, my daughter, by God
Most High, beyond all women on earth. |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
The trust you have shown shall not pass
from the memories of men, |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
May you be blessed in all the tents of
Judah and Jacob, and in every nation; for in every nation which shall hear
the sound of your name men will be seized with the urge to have the God of
Israel magnified on occasion of you. |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
You are the glory of Jerusalem |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
Listen, daughter, pay careful attention: |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
Then the sanctuary of God in heaven
opened, and the ark of the covenant could be seen inside it. Then came
flashes of lightning, and peals of thunder, and an earthquake, and a great
storm of hail. |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a
woman, adorned with the sun. |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
There was a woman, standing on the moon,
and with the twelve stars on her head for a crown. |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
Sing to the Lord a new song for he has
performed marvels. |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
Dressed in brocades, the King’s daughter
is led in to the King, with virgin companions in her train. |

and to the Holy Spirit. |

FIFTH GLORIOUS MYSTERY: THE CORONATION OF OUR LADY AS QUEEN |
|
|
OUR FATHER |
‘Why should I be honoured with a visit
from the Mother of my Lord ?’ |
|
HAIL MARY 1 |
Who is she arising like the dawn, |
|
HAIL MARY 2 |
Like the rainbow gleaming against
brilliant clouds, |
|
HAIL MARY 3 |
I am the mother of pure love, of fear and
reverence, |
|
HAIL MARY 4 |
I am bestowed on all my children, from
all eternity on those appointed by him. |
|
HAIL MARY 5 |
Approach me, you who desire me, |
|
HAIL MARY 6 |
For memories of me are sweeter than
honey, as is my spirit, |
|
HAIL MARY 7 |
And now, my sons, my children, listen to
me; Blessed are they that keep my ways. |
|
HAIL MARY 8 |
Happy those who keep my ways! |
|
HAIL MARY 9 |
For the man who finds me finds life, |
|
HAIL MARY 10 |
Hail, Queen of Mercy, protect us from the
enemy, and receive us at the hour of death. Your throne, O God, shall last for ever and ever, On your right stands the queen, arrayed in the gold from Ophir. Psalms 45; 6, 9 (44; 7, 10) |
|
GLORY BE |

and to the Holy Spirit. |
